Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, also known as Szechwan Lovage Rhizome and Cnidium. The Pharmaceutical Latin name is Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong and Rhizoma Ligustici Wallichii.

Sichuan lovage is mainly produced in Sichuan province of China, other provinces like Jiangxi, Hubei and Xhaanxi. Nowadays, the herb is sourced from cultivation. The habitat of this plant is shady slopes in forests at elevations of 1500--3700 meters in western China

Based on TCM, the actions of this herb invigorate the blood and promote the movement of qi, expel wind and alleviate pain.

Some indications that can be treat by this herb with specific dosage and formulation are blood stasis, especially in gynecology with dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, difficult labor or retained lochia, qi and blood stagnation with pain and soreness in the chest, flanks and hypochondria and externally contracted wind with headache, dizziness or painful obstruction.

Pharmacological effect of Sichuan Lovage Rhizome is cardiovascular, antiplatelet, anticoagulant, circulatory, sedative, effect on the smooth muscle, and protective effect against radiation.
